  1. Make sure you rinse it very well before cooking and feeding it eating it…the seed cover has a laxative effect if you do not!!! (for your and your best friends)( it can also taste really bitter without a good rinse). The best is to soak it and make sure the water is clear after rinsing a few time after that…start with a little and see how it is liked…read around the web to gather a lot off info so you get the big picture and not make you or your friends start trotting ….

  2. Quinoa is not a grain.
    From another site
    >Quinoa is the seed of a species of goosefoot (“Chenopodium quinoa” to be exact). A goosefoot is a type of plant that is aptly named for its leaves that are shaped like the foot of a goose. It is a chenopod, which means it is closely related to beets, chard, and spinach.

Is quinoa a grain? No. Quinoa is actually a seed of the Chenopodium quinoa plant. Quinoa is considered a “pseudo-cereal” which is a phrase given to any food that looks and cooks like a grain and has a similar nutrient profile, but a different botanical make-up.>

  7. Quinoa can be a great food for dogs to have. It is very healthy, and I do not think it would cause the dog any harm.

Maybe try giving a small amount and see if your dog has any issues. If not then you can feed your dog quinoa.

    • It is always a good idea to give a small amount of a food first to make sure your dog can have it.

Like humans all dogs can have allergies to foods, so some foods that are 100% safe for most dogs can still cause an allergic reaction to other dogs. Quinoa is no exception to that.

  8. I don’t think that quinoa would be bad for dogs (unless they are allergic to it)

Just make sure you do fully cook the quinoa. Raw quinoa can lead to bad stomach aches.

  9. It is true that quinoa has started to be added to a lot of dog foods. It has started to become very popular in the last year.

I have occasionally given the leftover quinoa to my dog after diner, and have not had any issues. But some may be allergic. so watch out.

  10. Even so, I would be cautious about feeding my dog quinoa.
If I eat quinoa, I get extremely ill, vomiting, and diarrhea for about 2-1/2 hours. But, then I’m ok after about 4 hours, and usually was ok for dinner. This happened 3 times, with no other food, except rice eaten. Now, I have to read labels, becuz the companies are all jumping on the trend, to add quinoa to everything.

I have been giving my dog quinoa for a while now and have not seen any side effects. However be careful the first time you give quinoa as it contains proteins that are not in other foods. Your dog could have an allergy to it.
